Shea Moisture Cosmetics Sheer Foundation Review

May 12, 2014

Grab or Pass??

I’ve been debating back and forth whether or not I wanted to share my thoughts on the Shea Moisture Foundation. But what would be the point for me to purchase the product for testing and not write about it? So let’s get into it.

Shea Moisture’s Sheer Foundation which can be found at most Target stores, is true to its description as a “Sheer Foundation”. The texture is very smooth and the coverage is very light. I purchased the shade Havasu Hazel and it’s a pretty good match for me with great golden undertones. Reading the box it mentions “hydration” which is a clear indicator that people with dry or combo/dry skin would be best suited for this product. Even after reading the description, I tried it anyway.

For oily girls considering whether or not to purchase this, don’t have high expectations. The formula is pretty good and it’s smooth but the description on the package is dead on. It’s not a matte foundation, but it’s perfect for normal to dry skin. Even with your best matte primer your face will end up with some form of oil towards the 4 or 6 hour mark. I set the foundation with different powders and I found that using a sponge to apply powder is best. I used a face powder brush a few times and each time the end result was not pretty. Kind of cakey.

When first applied, it looks beautiful and flawless but you can tell by 4 hours later that the coverage disappeared. This isn’t a long-wear foundation at all. It reminds me of a good BB Cream but not as good as the Kiss BB Cream. Does that make sense?

Recap

Coverage: Sheer like a BB Cream

Long-Wear: No, a good 4 hours.

Skin Type: Best for Dry or Normal to Dry Skin

Transfer: Yes, I noticed it on my hands.

Grab or Pass?: Pass for me because I have combo/oily skin. Definite grab for normal to dry skin.

In conclusion, the product is good for those who may not want too much coverage on a daily basis. I prefer a light coverage on a daily basis which is why I was drawn to the product. This would also be ideal for people with dry or normal to dry skin. If you’re in need of hydration this is right up your alley. I took this foundation back but I’m holding on to the Wet/Dry Pressed Powder and will test out to give a detailed review.
